Why preparation helps
A quote depends on the details of your situation
Auto insurance questions commonly involve the drivers in a household, the vehicles being insured, how those vehicles are used, prior insurance, and the coverage choices being considered. Different insurers may ask for different details.
Accurate information helps an agent understand what needs to be reviewed. It also reduces the chance that two quotes look similar even though they were prepared with different assumptions.
Start with the basics
Information suitable for the public quote form
Southern Shield's general quote form is intended for basic, non-sensitive information:
- Your name and preferred contact information
- Your Missouri city and ZIP Code
- Your preferred contact method and a helpful time to respond
- Auto insurance as the type of help requested
- A short, general description of what you need
Keep the first message general
You can say that you are adding a vehicle, reviewing a renewal, adding a driver, or considering a change without including sensitive identifiers or documents.
Have these details ready
Topics an agent may need to discuss with you
Drivers
Who may drive the vehicles, general licensing status, household relationships, and how often each person uses a vehicle.
Vehicles
Year, make, model, ownership or financing status, where each vehicle is kept, and how it is normally used.
Driving patterns
Approximate annual mileage, commuting or business use, and other regular uses that may be relevant.
Prior insurance
Current or recent insurer, policy period, coverage limits and deductibles, and any gaps that need to be discussed.
Driving and loss history
General information about accidents, claims, or violations may be requested. Exact time periods and questions can vary.
Coverage goals
The limits, deductibles, vehicle protection, and optional features you want to understand or compare.
A practical privacy framework
What to share now, discuss later, and never send publicly
Basic request details
Name, contact information, city, ZIP Code, preferred contact method, and a brief non-sensitive description.
Detailed quote information
Driver, vehicle, household, prior-insurance, driving-history, and coverage details requested during follow-up.
Sensitive identifiers and documents
Social Security numbers, driver's-license numbers or images, vehicle identification numbers, payment information, medical information, policy documents, or claim documents.
During the conversation
Questions that can improve the review
- Are all quotes based on the same drivers, vehicles, and uses?
- Which limits and deductibles are being used?
- Which coverages are included, optional, or not included?
- Does an insurer need additional information before the quote is complete?
- What is the appropriate route for any sensitive information that is still needed?
A quote is not the same as bound coverage. Confirm the effective date, payment requirements, and any remaining steps before relying on a policy change.
